  3. Sallam Alukom
I just have a questions about the Moors…
right now I am doing a project about them … and cannot find any information about what the Moors where doing in Europe during the 16th century.. I really hope you can back to me as soon as possible … thank you..
    Ma’as Salama

  4. Wa alaikum salaam Noor,

Well, by that time (the 16th century), the last Moorish kingdom/emirate in Granada had already fallen (in 1492). However, it really rather depends what you mean by ‘Moor’. This is because that term was often used indiscriminately in Europe to refer to any Muslim, as was ‘Turk’. These terms as used in Europe didn’t really refer to a set ethnicity.

Thus, references to ‘Moor’ may also actually be referring to the Ottoman Turks. This isn’t exactly my area, but I hope this helps.

For a brief overview of the period (and helpful notes), see Ira Lapidus’ History of Islamic Societies.

    Ma’as salama,
    Abdur Rahman

  5. What were the Moors doing in Europe in the sixteenth century?

  6. Peace Sabrina,
