Assalamualaikum brother Abdur Rahman,
I’ve been a muslim by birth and for most of my childhood, I’ve lived in England. As such, the idea of me being a servant to a greater being (my Maker) was an alien concept to me but Alhamdulillah, recently, God has open my heart to the straight path and in doing so, He fufills one of his promises as stated in the Quran, Allah says surely, He will guide whom he wills and Alhamdullilah, i feel like i’m a born again muslim. I am now relishing reading the Quran and try to absorb the islamic teachings as much as possible. Since you’re a conveted muslim yourself, could please share with me how you managed to delved deeply into Islam from scratch? Could you please recommend me some good resources on islam that someone like me can study?
And lastly, in your opinion which English translation book of the Quran is the best (closest to God intended message) ?
Salaams Riduan bhai,
Al hamdu lillah for Allah’s ever-present, overflowing mercy, with reaches unto all things.
You are indeed a born again Muslim, so to speak. May Allah bless you and strengthen you; may your path to Allah be easy and may all your roads take you only closer to Him.
There are many useful English translations of the Quran. It’s good to read the Quran at any time. Reading it with understanding is absolutely essential. Follow the links under the resources section of my main blog (http://www.thecorner.wordpress.com) and you’ll find several. Each has its own strengths and will appeal to you differently.
I’ve also collected lots of other resources on my main blog, so you might find it useful to have a look there. My advice? Just take it slowly. I tried to rush and it caused me problems. Ask Allah for help sincerely, and He will guide your steps. Moreover, listen to your own heart and what it tells you: you’ll know where you need to go. Insha Allah al-Rahman
PS – if you have anything you’d like to ask me about – let me know.
Ma’as salama,
Abdur Rahman
